The Syracuse Orange (1-0) took on the Delaware State Hornets (0-1) on a sunny, early afternoon in Central New York for the first time ever in the schools' histories.

Speaking of history, true freshman guard Kiyan Anthony got his first collegiate start in this match-up.

The Orange scored on their opening possession when sophomore forward Donnie Freeman connected from long range to give Syracuse the first lead of the day, 3-0.

Delaware State answered right back, scoring on their first possession as well, on a jumper by sophomore forward Kareem Watson that brought the score to 3-2 Syracuse.

Sophomore forward Tyler Betsey would get his shot off right before the clock showed zero, giving the Orange their second long ball of the game, rolling them ahead 15-6.

True freshman forward Sadiq White, Jr., would give Syracuse their first double-digit lead of the day on a lay-in that made it 17-6 Orange.

At the 11:08 mark of the first half, with Syracuse up 17-8, White would be aided off the floor due to an injury, heading toward the locker room.

Inside five minutes to play in the first half, Anthony was fouled shotting a three, making the shot but missing the free throw, to give Syracuse a 30-11 advantage.

Immediately after, Anthony went in for a layup to make it 32-11 Orange.

Good news away aside from the scoreboard came later on in the first half when White returned to the floor.

At the break, the Orange led the Hornets 40-17.

Anthony, who also started the second half for Syracuse, was the first to score for either team in the latter half, with a layup that made it 42-17 Orange.

At the midpoint of the second half, Syracuse led 61-26, out-scoring Delaware State 19-9 at this juncture in the half.

Scoring 43 points in the final 20 minutes, the Orange would end this daytime match-up with the Hornets with a 40-point victory, 83-43, to improve to 2-0 on the season, while the Hornets fell to 0-2, starting the season with a loss on the road against the Temple Owls, 83-65.

Freeman led all scorers on either side with 20 points.

Anthony ended his first collegiate start with a new collegiate record of 19 points, topping his 15 scored versus Binghamton in the season-/home-opener.

White followed with 10 points for Syracuse.

After starting the season with 11 dunks versus the Binghamton Bearcats, the Orange would conclude this contest with the Hornets with four dunks.
